Herefordshire’s new High Sheriff, Helen Bowden, has taken office following a Declaration Ceremony in Hereford Cathedral.
The ceremony was presided over by His Honour Judge Jackson, the Honourary Recorder of the City of Hereford, who administered the Declaration of Office with Susan Furnival JP, the Chair of Hereford Magistrates Bench.
Daughter number three of Bill and Margaret Lyke, Helen grew up on a farm in North Herefordshire. After studying a Masters at Cranfield and a career in marketing, Helen returned to Herefordshire in 1197 and bought Orphans Press printers in Leominster, which has recent celebrated its 150th anniversary.
Helen says, “This High Sheriff year is an opportunity to learn about areas I’m not familiar with. I’ll throw myself in with energy and enthusiasm and try to make a difference where I can. Truly considering those who have a tough time. It is the honour of my life and I will do my very best to fulfil the role.”
The new High Sheriff has appointed The Reverend Angie Kateley as her chaplain, and her Under Sheriff will be Thomas Bagley one of our directors.
We send our warmest congratulations and best wishes to Helen as she assumes office.
