The Private Client team at Gabbs specialise in assist clients with administering an estate of a deceased relative or friend.

The team can assist clients with the full administration of an estate from start to finish which can involve the following.

  • Identifying the assets of the estate;
  • Calculating and arranging the payment of Inheritance Tax;
  • Applying for and receiving the Grant of Probate;
  • Selling and collecting in assets following the receipt of the Grant of Probate;
  • Accounting to HMRC for any income and capital gains tax during the administration period;
  • Advising on the use of after death variations to help with estate planning and inheritance tax mitigation; and
  • Distributing the assets according to the Will or intestacy provisions if the deceased hadn’t made a Will.

If a full administration is not required, the team at Gabbs can assist clients to obtain the Grant of Probate so that they can administer the estate themselves.

Carolyn Theobald
Director, Consultant Solicitor

Carolyn Theobald joined us in May 2007 and operates out of our Hay office. She studied law at Exeter University and at the College of Law in Chester before embarking on her legal career in Lincoln's Inn in 1976.

Sarah Charlesworth

Sarah joined Gabbs as a receptionist in our Leominster office in July 2018, having just graduated with a first class law degree from Bangor University. She undertook her LPC with the University of Law in Birmingham, completing this in 2020.

Nav is a Solicitor based in our Hereford Office. She deals with Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Administration of Estates, and Court of Protection matters.

Fiona Davies
Solicitor

Born and educated in Shrewsbury Shropshire, Fiona studied a law and French degree at Keele University Staffordshire.  Fiona lived and worked in France and Canada before moving to Herefordshire.

Nikki Doherty
Solicitor

Nikki started her legal career in 2001 as an Office Junior and now has 22 years’ experience in legal firms. Nikki qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in 2013 and was admitted as a Solicitor in 2017. Nikki’s experience, qualifications and passion is merged in Private Client work. Nikki drafts Wills, administers Estates, implements, and registers Powers of Attorney, advises on tax, deals with Court of Protection cases for vulnerable adults and assists with contentious probate actions. Outside of work, Nikki is a keen triathlete and trail runner.

Jonathan Skilbeck
Solicitor

Jonathan is a Man of Kent, and following his education at Kent College in Canterbury, graduated from Exeter University with a degree in History and thereafter from the Ironbridge International Institute for Cultural Heritage with a Master’s degree in Heritage Management.
